New Zealand 2007 daylight savings update for Mac OS X

Apple neglected to release a timely update for Mac OS X with the new daylight savings rules for New Zealand that started at 2am on September 30th in 2007. Mac OS X 10.4.11 and 10.5 included the necessary updates, but weren't released until it was too late.

You use these updates at your own risk, I accept no responsibility if these applications causes any problems.

10.4.10 Update

This application updates /usr/share/zoneinfo/Pacific/Auckland with the current rules, re-links /usr/share/zoneinfo/NZ to that, updates /usr/share/icu/icudt32b.dat, and updates /usr/share/icu/icudt32l.dat if it exists (it doesn't exist on Mac OS X Server PPC). It will only update if any of the current files have a modification date older than July 18th. This update has been tested with Mac OS X 10.4.10 on PowerPC and Intel, and Mac OS X Server PowerPC. This update also works on Mac OS X 10.4.9, but if you upgrade to 10.4.10 you will need to reapply the update. I definitely don't expect it to work on 10.4.8 or earlier. This update is obsoleted by Mac OS X 10.4.11, Mac OS X 10.4.11 has even later daylight savings rules.

If you used version 1.0 of this update, you should download and run version 1.1.

10.3.9 Update

This application updates /usr/share/zoneinfo/Pacific/Auckland with the current rules, re-links /usr/share/zoneinfo/NZ to that, and updates /usr/share/icu/icudt26b.dat. It will only update if any of the current files have a modification date older than July 18th. This update has been tested with Mac OS X 10.3.9 with the Daylight Savings Update (Panther) installed. I don't expect it to work on older versions of Mac OS X or if you don't have the Daylight Savings Update (Panther) installed.

Mac OS 9 users can use my Daylight Savings Editor.

Thanks to the people on the WellDev list for their help and testing.

The ICU updates were generated by downloading and building the ICU package for the closest version of Darwin that was available, all the tools needed are in that.
